For more than 102 years, Tate Engineering has helped customers keep critical mechanical systems running safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Founded in Baltimore in 1924, Tate began as a marine boiler company supporting the region’s shipbuilding and industrial markets. Today, we are a family-owned mechanical service provider serving customers across the Mid-Atlantic with solutions for boilers, HVAC, compressed air, filtration, pumps, controls, preventative maintenance, emergency service, rentals, and mission-critical environments.
Our business has changed over the past century, but our purpose has remained the same: help customers solve mechanical challenges, reduce downtime, and keep their facilities operating.
Tate Engineering provides commercial and industrial mechanical services for facilities that cannot afford unexpected downtime.
Our services include:
From routine maintenance to emergency response, Tate helps customers extend equipment life, improve system performance, and plan ahead before small issues become major failures.
Tate Engineering was founded in 1924 by William J. Tate after he came to Baltimore from Belfast, Ireland. The company originally focused on marine boiler replacement parts and service for Baltimore’s marine industry.
Over time, Tate expanded beyond marine work into industrial equipment, boiler service, mechanical systems, and field support. As customer needs changed, Tate continued to evolve by adding new services, technical capabilities, and regional support.
A major turning point came in 2018, when Tate shifted from being primarily equipment-focused to a stronger service, repair, installation, and maintenance model. In 2020, Tate acquired Site Support Services, expanding the company’s HVAC capabilities and strengthening its ability to support customers from floor to basement.
Today, Tate serves customers across Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region through seven strategically located offices.
Tate supports a wide range of commercial, industrial, institutional, and mission-critical facilities, including:
Data centers
Healthcare facilities
Manufacturing and processing plants
Food and beverage facilities
Pharmaceutical and biotech facilities
Commercial buildings
Government and municipal facilities
Universities and K-12 campuses
Warehouse and distribution centers
Industrial plants
Water and utility facilities
Whether we are supporting a hospital, data center, manufacturing plant, school, commercial property, or government facility, our team understands that mechanical reliability directly impacts safety, productivity, comfort, and business continuity.
With seven office locations across the Mid-Atlantic, Tate combines local response with the technical depth of a larger mechanical service organization.
Our customers work with local teams who understand their facilities, equipment, schedules, and expectations. Behind those teams is a larger network of experienced technicians, project managers, service leaders, parts specialists, and equipment experts who can support complex mechanical challenges.
That combination gives customers the best of both worlds: responsive local service and access to broader technical resources when needed.
Safety is central to how Tate operates.
We invest in training, planning, and field support to help protect our associates, our customers, and the facilities where we work. Our teams follow industry standards and best practices, including OSHA, ASME, and NBIC requirements where applicable.
For our customers, that means work is performed with attention to safety, quality, compliance, and long-term system reliability.
Tate has always focused on helping customers get more from their mechanical systems.
Today, that includes improving energy efficiency, reducing unnecessary downtime, supporting sustainability goals, and helping facilities make smarter decisions about repair, replacement, maintenance, and equipment planning.
From boiler efficiency upgrades to HVAC maintenance, controls improvements, audits, and rental contingency planning, Tate helps customers operate more efficiently while protecting critical systems.
Customers choose Tate because we bring more than equipment and service. We bring experience, planning, responsiveness, and accountability.
For more than a century, Tate has earned trust by showing up, solving problems, and adapting to what customers need next. We understand that mechanical systems are not just equipment. They support production, patient care, comfort, safety, uptime, and business continuity.
At Tate, our work is mission critical, and our attitude is mission accomplished.
